And Now For Something Completely Different

Hello Friends,

I have some News.

I have been offered and have accepted a position as Program Coordinator of the High School Partnerships at Chemeketa Community College in Salem. This is the program that I have been teaching in since 2008.

I am very excited about this. These Programs partner with the State and local schools to transition at risk students from places where they are not making it  in High School to a successful transition to College. We have a GED program, a full alternative school and a early college High School.  Our students often come from the very back of the  socioeconomic and academic parade to having two years of college credit under their belt, debt free and by their 18th birthday. We reliably produce hope, and justice for some very disadvantaged young people.

This position will be extremely full time. For the next five weeks I will be doing the new job while finishing up my three sections of Winter term Psychology. After that my teaching load will be greatly reduced.

This is going to take almost all my time and attention for the foreseeable future.

I have already closed my counseling practice.
Travel will be out of the question for at least 18 months.
The Quaker world is going to shrink for me to Sunday mornings at Freedom Friends.
If you want to see me, I suggest you come to worship.
I have cancelled two book projects, I likely won't be blogging much, at least not for a while. It will be a job where the stories I find and live will not likely be shareable.
I have told Rocinante, she is not happy with me.
But I am happy with me.

For the first time in a long time I am going to do one thing and try and do it well.
Please pray for me if you think of me.

Peggy

I have NO doubt this is also God's work!

Blessings on you and all you will touch.

Holding you all in the Light

I'm delighted and proud of you! Kudos for the feather in your cap; i'm sure you will make the program even better. The similar program with Seattle Community Col. has saved lives -- and now they have a waiting list! ha!
. I highly recommend one book above all at this point --and i suspect you'll find it resonates with your own experience at some points-- 'Reading Classes' -On Culture and Classism in America, by Barbara Jensen; ILR Press, Ithaca NY, 2012. Really enlightening and insghtful, confirmed things i've been saying for years...

Looks like I got to Quaker blog-reading just in time, to find out what you're up to and where God is leading you.

Indeed, do your best, as you have always done. I'll be eager to learn of the fruits, whenever they are and however it is that you are able to share what they are.

Blessings,

I'm so glad and grateful to hear the news! And look forward to hearing the fruits of this kind of intense focus for you. The work sounds blessed and important. You'll be in my prayers.

So.........
Promise Rocinante to use her for transportation to work at least occasionally. That ought to maintain the "Cool Factor" with some of the students and maybe teachers.

I know you will do well.
