It would never occur to them that a human would feed them or speak to them. "The Rats of Kigali" would be a really scary post!
I occasionally spoke to cats in central Africa and they always gave me a severe WTF look before running off. I wouldn't want one in my bedroom while I slept.
I'd be willing to bet those kitties are not even remotely domesticated. and could prolly take down a water buffalo.
